About Our Doctors & Staffs
Scott Kastner, DVM – Virginia Tech (VMRCVM) in 2000
Dr. Kastner has been practicing medicine for seventeen years. He has over six years of experience working in emergency medicine where cases are often complex, requiring diligent attention to the owners’ observations and the subtle signs displayed by their pets. Through extensive physical examinations and documentations of patients’ medical histories, Dr. Kastner has been able to successfully analyze and explain pet medical problems to the satisfaction of clients, thus developing the bond of trust necessary to ensure that medical treatments reflect their wishes. Learning how to listen, observe, and form this partnership has been the greatest lesson he has learned from his past experience in the field. As Dr. Kastner has expressed, “I founded Sunshine Animal Hospital because of my commitment to restoring the caring, one-on-one relationship needed in veterinary medicine. We are a low-key, down-home hospital that provides quality healthcare, compassion, and respect for our clients and patients.”
Bo Ra Choi, DVM
Dr. Choi is a native of Korea came to United States with her family when she was 17 years old. Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, she went to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated in 2011. She joined Sunshine Animal Hospital in 2016 with her dog, Papillon. Dr. Choi believes that client education is a very important aspect of pet care through which the bond between pet owners and pets can get stronger. Dr. Choi has strong interests in Oriental medicine influenced by her mother who was an oriental medicine doctor, which led her to study animal acupuncture which she successfully finished studying in 2015.
Dr. Choi is married to SC and they love to hike and travel (and eat) in their free time.
Sun is our hospital’s chief financial officer–a wonderful person, as well as Dr. Kastner’s wife and inspiration. Born in Korea, she immigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen. She is trained and registered as a respiratory therapist in human medicine. We have been able to reach out to the Korean community, not only because of her ability to provide accurate translations, but also because she brings warmth and caring to every client’s visit. When she is not working at our animal hospital, she tries to find time for her passion of golf.
Sam has been an assistant at Sunshine Animal Hospital since late 2013, and has enjoyed working here ever since. Sam loves working with animals, and does his best to care for and comfort them. Sam enjoys meeting new and returning patients and hopes to see you and your pets soon!
